Arlington ISD began the interview process on Monday for the vacant head football coach position at Arlington Bowie, following the departure of Danny DeArman, who accepted the AD/HFC job at Joshua.

AISD is bringing in seven candidates for the position and they expect to move quickly in the search.

Candidates include one current member of the Bowie staff, another internal candidate to Arlington ISD, two DFW area defensive coordinators, a current DFW head coach, a current Houston area head coach and a former DFW area head coach who currently is not an active coach.

Magnolia West Names McGehee Next Head Coach

The Temple to Magnolia pipeline which started a few years ago when Mike Spradlin was hired to be the athletic director at Magnolia ISD continues, as MISD on Tuesday announced Sweetwater head coach Ben McGehee as the new head football coach at Magnolia West High School.

McGehee, who had served as the offensive coordinator at Temple as a part of a pair of state finalist teams in 2014 and 2016 before returning to the Big Country in 2017 for his first head coaching job. McGehee had previously served as an assistant at Brownwood and Abilene Cooper.

McGehee took over a Sweetwater squad that in 2016 had played for a state title and in his first season guided the Mustangs to a 10-3 mark. Heavy graduation losses plagued Sweetwater for much of the next two years as Sweetwater won just a single game in 2018 playing many freshman and sophomores. Things started to turn in late 2019 and the Mustangs were able to sneak into the post-season as the fourth place team, they continued their run of success in 2020 with a district title and an area round playoff appearance before a close loss to Celina.

McGehee takes over a solid Magnolia West program that is in one of the deepest districts in the state in 5A-Division I, but they have good resources and talent and should be in the mix for a playoff spot. McGehee’s departure from Sweetwater leaves an attractive opening in the Big Country as the Mustangs look to be loaded for the next two years with veteran talent returning as they expect to compete for a regional title at the 4A-Division II level.

Miller led the Patriots to a 44-43 record.

Boone returned to the DFW area in 2018 when Shavers was hired as the head coach at McKinney and has served in that role for the past three seasons.
