Who runs this state? The Dave Campbell’s Texas Football staff gives their power rankings of the 12 FBS college football teams in Texas.

Note: Teams are measured against the overall strength of their conference. Only teams that have played are ranked.

Last Week
1.UTSA Roadrunners
Record: 8 - 0
Notes: UTSA remains atop of the Texas power poll with a 7-0 record and rankings in the AP and Coach's Poll. The Roadrunners beat Rice 45-0 in Week 7.
Last Week: #1
2.SMU Mustangs
Record: 7 - 0
Notes: SMU was idle in Week 7. The Mustangs are 6-0 on the season thanks to a high-powered passing attack and a rugged run game. Up next is a Thursday night game against Tulane.
Last Week: #2
3.Baylor Bears
Record: 6 - 1
Notes: Baylor improved to 6-1 on the year after the Bears rushed for 303 yards in a win over future Big 12 foe BYU. Abram Smith ran for 188 yards and three touchdowns.
Last Week: #4
4.Texas A&M Aggies
Record: 6 - 2
Notes: Jimbo Fisher's program is starting to look like what we expected going into 2021 with consecutive SEC wins, including a Week 6 victory over Alabama.
Last Week: #3
5.Houston Cougars
Record: 5 - 1
Notes: The Cougars are 5-1 heading into a home game against East Carolina. Houston was idle in Week 6 and are on a five-game winning streak.
Last Week: #5
6.UTEP Miners
Record: 6 - 1
Notes: The Miners are bowl eligible after a 19-3 win over Louisiana Tech. The UTEP defense is one of the best units at the G5 level.
Last Week: #7
7.Texas Longhorns
Record: 4 - 3
Notes: Texas collapsed for the second consecutive game against an opponent from Oklahoma. This time it was Oklahoma State that outlasted the Longhorns to drop Texas to 4-3 on the season.
Last Week: #6
8.TCU Horned Frogs
Record: 3 - 4
Notes: Oklahoma's offense was too much for a TCU squad struggling to find defensive stops. The offense did look high-powered with Max Duggan and Quentin Johnston connecting regularly.
Last Week: #8
9.Texas Tech Red Raiders
Record: 5 - 3
Notes: Texas Tech coasted past Kansas to move to 5-1 on the year and one game away from bowl eligibility. That six win will be hard to find as the schedule becomes more difficult.
Last Week: #9
10.Texas State Bobcats
Record: 2 - 5
Notes: The Bobcats played solid football through three quarters against Troy. The problem is that football is a four-quarter game.
Last Week: #11
11.Rice Owls
Record: 3 - 4
Notes: Rice was shut out by UTSA in a 45-0 loss. The Owls only managed 102 yards of total offense in defeat.
Last Week: #10
12.North Texas Mean Green
Record: 1 - 6
Notes: North Texas trailed Marshall 42-7 at halftime during a home game on Friday night. The sky is beginning to fall on the Seth Littrell era.
