The number of schools opting to depart the American Southwest Conference will soon increase by one after sources confirmed to Dave Campbell’s that LeTourneau is expected to announce its intention to join the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Sources indicate the move is expected to become official within the next few weeks, and LeTourneau will compete in the SCAC in the 2025-2026 school year. This move is the latest blow to the ASC, which will have only four full-time members, East Texas Baptist, Hardin-Simmons, Howard Payne, and Mary Hardin-Baylor, for all sports when the Yellow Jackets depart.

The exodus away from the ASC began in November 2022, when the SCAC announced its plan to sponsor football for the first time since the 2016 season, and McMurry announced it had accepted an invitation to join the SCAC. Sul Ross State became the next team to leave the conference when it declared its intention to transition to NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference in January 2023.

The ASC lost multiple non-football members when Concordia and Ozarks accepted an invitation to join the SCAC in May 2023. Two months later, UT Dallas revealed it was joining the Lobos in a move to NCAA DII and the LSC. 

The SCAC finds itself in a position of strength with McMurry joining Austin College, Texas Lutheran, Centenary, and Lyon for the 2024 campaign. The conference will begin its two-year wait for an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs when Schreiner begins sponsoring football in 2026.
