To say the 2022 season was difficult for Austin College would be an understatement. The Kangaroos showed flashes of competitiveness and pulled off an upset over ETBU on the road. However, a 1-9 record led to a new coach in Sherman for the first time in 13 years after Loren Dawson resigned. The ‘Roos named Tony Joe White head coach, a selection widely regarded as a great hire inside the coaching industry.
White is no stranger to difficult situations. He turned Birmingham-Southern into a threat for the SAA title and led the Panthers to a 10-2 record and an at-large berth in the DIII playoffs. White will have a better budget than he did at BSC, and the ‘Roos have made a commitment to improving the athletic facilities. With White’s track record of success, it may not be long until Austin College is in contention for a playoff bid.
