As Sul Ross State enters the Lone Star Conference, the Lobos are not eligible for the playoffs for the next two seasons. However, that doesn’t mean the Lobos can’t compete for the postseason. SRSU can earn a spot in the RV Fun Town Heritage Bowl while transitioning to Division II.

“We’re treating the bowl game like it’s the championship for us these first two years,” Barry Derickson said. “That focus has helped recruits be more receptive to our pitch. Our goal this year is to win enough ballgames to get to the bowl game, and everyone is pumped about that possibility.”

Derickson said the Lobos have a talented roster but is still determining whether SRSU has enough depth to compete against LSC teams this season, which he will try to improve through the Transfer Portal during the summer.
