The quarterback carousel at Texas State stopped for the Bobcats when head coach G.J. Kinne’s program secured the commitment of James Madison quarterback Jordan McCloud.

McCloud led James Madison to an 11-1 record and a No. 24 ranking in the AP Poll last season. He spent two seasons at Arizona (2021, 2022) and two seasons at South Florida (2019, 2020).

The senior-to-be at Texas State is the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year and a All-Sun Belt First-Teamer.

McCloud completed 68.9 percent of his passes and threw for 3,413 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2023. He also ran for 311 yards and eight touchdowns while committing nine interceptions. He entered the transfer portal after former James Madison coach Curt Cignetti took the job at Indiana.

Texas State made headlines at the quarterback position when Arizona transfer Jayden de Laura pledged to the Bobcats, which resulted in starter T.J. Finley transferring to Western Kentucky after leading the program to eight wins and the first-ever bowl victory. De Laura left the program after off-field issues surfaced.

McCloud provides Texas State a proven winner in the Sun Belt Conference.
