Tarleton head coach Todd Whitten wasted no time finding a new offensive coordinator. Multiple sources have confirmed to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football that Adam Austin will be promoted to serve as the Texans' third offensive coordinator in the last three seasons.

Austin has served as quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator for the Texans over the last three seasons. He started his coaching career at Grambling State and spent two years as a graduate assistant at Marshall.

The Mundelein, Ill. native’s first full-time coaching job was under Bill Maskill at Midwestern State in 2011. Austin was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2013, a position he held for six seasons.

Austin helped lead Tarleton’s former Lone Star Conference rival to three conference titles and five appearances in the NCAA Division II playoffs during his eight seasons. MSU’s offense was one of the best in DII during his tenure. Austin was instrumental in developing quarterback Layton Rabb, twice a nominee for the Harlon Hill Award, known as the Heisman Trophy of Division II. He left the Mustangs to become offensive coordinator at Eastern Kentucky.

Tarleton’s quarterbacks have thrived under Austin’s tutelage. Beau Allen was named the 2022 Western Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year after throwing for 2,836 yards and 23 touchdowns. Victor Gabalis threw for 2,492 yards and 18 touchdowns during his sophomore campaign last year and will benefit from using a similar system in 2024.
