Another TXHSFB coach has made his way into the college ranks as former Carrollton Newman Smith head coach Paul Ressa has joined the staff at Coastal Carolina as the Director of Player Personnel.

Ressa was a mainstay at his alma mater for 14 seasons, serving as the Trojans head coach from 2007-2020. He led Newman Smith to the playoffs four times, and led the Trojans to their two best seasons in school history; in 2009 they posted a 10-3 mark advancing to the Class 5A regional semifinals only to do it again in 2010.

Prior to returning to his alma mater, Ressa served as an assistant coach at Mansfield Summit and Carrollton Creekview. After resigning from Newman Smith in December 2020, Ressa joined the staff at DFW power Denton Ryan as an assistant coach where he’s served the past two seasons.

During his time at Mansfield Summit, he worked under now Coastal Carolina head coach Tim Beck. Beck served as Summit’s first-ever head coach from 2002-2004. Ressa and Beck are two of several Texas connections on the Coastal staff as native Texan Craig Naivar is the defensive coordinator; Naivar has served as an assistant at SMU, Texas, Houston, Texas State and Rice. Former Texas assistant Derek Warehime is also on the Coastal staff where he coaches the offensive line.
