Denton Ryan junior defensive back Chance Rucker has committed to his new home in large part to a gesture made by his future head coach.

The 6-foot-1 cornerback decided to commit to Michigan State on June 6 in part because of the in-person offer Spartans head coach Mel Tucker gave him on his visit to East Lansing.

“Coach Tuck offering me in person was just different, he said. "Not many head coaches do that.”

The three-star defensive back previously revealed his top seven schools with Cal, Nebraska, Arkansas, Baylor, TCU and Florida also in the mix.

Rucker feels that this was the right time to commit because the Spartans have big plans for the future and it is the best place for him to be.

As for those harsh Michigan winters? Rucker knows he'll be able to adapt to pursue another aspiration of his after college.

“It’s something imma have to adjust to anyways," he said. "Can’t play in the NFL being afraid of the cold.”

He has become good friends with Frisco Lone Star defensive back Jaylon Braxton, and hopes he will be joining him at Michigan State. These two versatile players are the type of special talent the Spartans want to see on the field.

Rucker plans on visiting Michigan State again to watch a game during the bye week of his senior season.
