Heading into the UIL State Track Meet, Winnsboro 2026 WR Camden Capehart (5'9, 155) was already well known in East Texas because of his blazing-fast 10.08 100-meter speed (posted at the Atkins Relays at White Oak on March 28) and his standout play on the gridiron that helped power the Red Raiders to a 12-1 finish in 2023.

Capehart lived up to his billing, running a 10.44 to capture the state title in the 3A 100-meter race.

"It's a great feeling," Capehart beamed with a gold medal hanging around his neck. "It's a blessing coming out here to this place and running. I have never been on that podium, and I hope to do it next year and the year after."

The multi-sport, small-school superstar has started to see his football recruitment spike following a strong sophomore season in which he collected 39 receptions for 1,022 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging over 26 yards per catch.

"I think I have eight (offers) right now," Capehart said. "Just a couple of months ago, I had zero offers, and I didn't think I would get any. Then that race happened, and three coaches called for me back to back to back."

It was a memorable day as Capehart bounced back and forth between baseball and track as offers started rolling in.

Note: Winnsboro beat Quitman in baseball 4-2

"I had UNLV as my first offer, Capehart recalled. "It was a great feeling. I was changing into my other uniform, and my C4 coach, Sean Cooper, called me and told me about the UNLV offer.

And then, I was about to run my 4x4, and I had the University of Cal offer me right there. On my way back from the baseball game I had UNT offer me."

Capehart now holds offers from Arizona State, Cal, Marshall North Texas, UNLV, UTSA, Tarleton and Texas A&M Commerce.

"I would have to say that Arizona State, UTSA, and Cal are big offers for sure," Capehart said.

SMU and TCU are two more schools to track in Capehart's blossoming recruitment.
