SMU secured a massive transfer in its quest to load up the lines of scrimmage ahead of Power Four football Monday. Andrew Chamblee, the best available tackle in the portal, will spend next season on the Hilltop. ESPN's Pete Thamel was the first to report.
Chamblee was the No. 2-overall player in Arkansas for the class of 2022. The 6-foot-6, 300-pounder redshirted in 2022 before breaking out in 2023, earning All-SEC freshman honors. ESPN's transfer rankings described Chamblee as showing flashes in eight games at left tackle but said he, "struggled versus more explosive SEC edge rushers."
Chamblee should compete for a starting role after SMU lost all-conference tackle Marcus Bryant to the transfer portal and Hyrin White to graduation. PJ Williams was the projected starter at left tackle in DCTF's "Roster Autopsy" from February, while Oklahoma transfer Savion Byrd was slotted at right tackle.
Chamblee has three years of eligibility remaining.
