Texas defensive tackle and DeSoto product Byron Murphy II was drafted 16th overall by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was the first player from a Texas program selected in this year’s draft.

A four-star talent coming out of high school, Murphy finished his Texas career winning Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year and being named first-team All-Texas selection. He was also named a second-team All-American by the AP and Sporting News. He registered 29 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and five sacks in a year where he helped Texas make its first-ever College Football Playoff.

At DeSoto he recorded nearly 80 tackles his senior season and recorded 14 sacks.
