Henrietta High School named Frisco offensive coordinator Jay Jones as its next athletic director/head football coach on Sunday.

Jones replaces Michael Johnson, who departed earlier this offseason to become the offensive coordinator at Class 5A-Division I Granbury.

Jones spent 2023 as the offensive coordinator at Frisco High, but the 25-year coaching veteran has plenty of experience on his resume spending seven years as Coppell’s offensive coordinator, three years as Wylie East’s offensive coordinator and another three years as Coppell’s special teams coordinator. Jones also has coaching stops at Boyd, Wylie and Van Alstyne as well.

The Allen native says the timing was perfect in landing his first head coaching job.

“I wasn’t really looking to become a head coach the past few years, but with my son graduating we knew we’d give it a shot this offseason," he said. "Jobs like Henrietta don’t come open all that often. It’s not a rebuild at all. The previous staff has done a great job and they’ve won consistently. It’s my job to come in and try to build on that and get us to new heights.

“Going through the interview process I knew Henrietta had tough and smart kids, but I was impressed with the administration. They want to be good on and off the field. We want to be winners in athletics, the classroom and build great people to contribute to our community when they graduate."
