Mary Hardin-Baylor head coach Larry Harmon has chosen to split the defensive coordinator duties, sources have confirmed to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Mark Carey is being promoted to co-defensive coordinator and will coach linebackers. Jordan Collins is a new addition to the staff and will serve as co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach.

Carey is an alum of UMHB and was mentioned by multiple sources as one of the leading candidates when Jack Johnson chose to seek opportunities outside of football. Carey has coached the defensive line since 2017 and was promoted to special teams coordinator in 2022. UMHB will be his second stint as a co-defensive coordinator, having held the same position at Texas Lutheran. Carey helped lead the Bulldogs to three conference titles and TLU’s first NCAA playoff appearance.

Collins spent the previous five seasons at East Texas Baptist, where he served as defensive line coach for four seasons before being promoted to defensive coordinator before the 2023 campaign. The Tigers' defense finished in a three-way tie with Howard Payne and American Southwest Conference champion Hardin-Simmons for the most turnovers forced in the ASC (21) last year.
