Former SAGU standout QB and Texas Wesleyan coach among OC finalists

Sources have confirmed that SAGU former quarterback Jordan Barlow and Texas Wesleyan coach Ryan Glover are finalists to serve as offensive coordinator for the Lions next season. 

Barlow led SAGU to 13 victories, finishing with 4,436 yards passing, 592 yards rushing, and 50 touchdowns during his two years with the Lions. He set the SAGU program record for passing efficiency rating (149.2) in 2021 before embarking on a professional playing career. Barlow returned to SAGU as a graduate assistant working with the running backs and is the co-offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Edison Preparatory School in Tulsa.

Glover has spent the last four seasons as recruiting coordinator, wide receivers coach, and director of football operations for the Rams. Before joining TxWes, Glover served as running backs coach for his alma mater, Angelo State. The Frisco native began his coaching career in 2016 at NAIA St. Ambrose.

Schreiner begins search for head football coach

The search for a head football coach at Schreiner has begun, with the Mountaineers posting the position on the NCAA Market website. The job is expected to receive a quality list of candidates to restart the program, with the team expected to begin play in 2025.

Schreiner will compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, which is sponsoring football beginning in 2024. The Mountaineers are planning to build an on-campus stadium and fieldhouse. Schreiner is expected to play games at Tivy Antler Stadium in Kerrville until their new facility is complete.

Two coaches departing American Southwest Conference schools

Sources have confirmed that Howard Payne coach Terrell Sims and East Texas Baptist coach Mason Ruzicka have accepted positions at new schools. Sims is headed to NCAA Division II Albany State to coach wide receivers. He arrived at HPU in 2023 after spending one season as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Sul Ross State. He has also had stops at Valdosta State, Eastern Illinois, Virginia State, Florida A&M, and Florida International.

Ruzicka is departing his father’s staff at ETBU to serve a defensive quality control position at Campbell with former Houston Christian and HPU head coach Braxton Harris. Ruzicka spent the last five years with the Tigers and recently served as the special teams coordinator, linebackers coach, and recruiting coordinator.
