The youth movement in San Marcos just got an older brother.

Texas State is set to hire 37-year coaching veteran Bradley Dale Peveto to serve as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports was the first to report. Dexter McCoil, Sr. (32) was promoted from safeties coach to defensive coordinator February 1, forming one of the youngest coaching staffs in the FBS alongside offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich (29) and head coach GJ Kinne (35).

Peveto spent the last three seasons as UTEP's defensive coordinator. His first season in 2021, the Miners ranked second in total defense in Conference-USA, which was their highest mark in 12 seasons. He followed it up with a 2022 unit that led the conference in total defense.

Peveto has extensive ties to the state of Texas. He was a defensive assistant at Stephen F. Austin from 1988-91, Houston co-DC from 1999-02 and Texas A&M's linebacker coach for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
