Sam Houston is set to name Abilene Christian defensive coordinator Skyler Cassity to the same position, making the DCTF 40-under-40 selection one of the youngest coordinators in FBS. Ben Sorrells of SportsofSHSU was the first to report the news on Twitter.

Cassity spent the last two seasons as defensive coordinator at Abilene Christian, where he led the Wildcats to the top-ranked scoring defense in the Western Athletic Conference in 2022 and the fifth-best scoring defense in the United Athletic Conference this season. He was named to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 40-under-40 list in 2023.

Before joining ACU, Cassity served as outside linebackers, nickels, and safeties coach at Missouri State for two seasons. His coaching career began as a graduate assistant at Texas State in 2017, followed by three seasons coaching outside linebackers at Texas Tech while earning a Master’s Degree in Sports Management.

Cassity replaces another member of the 2023 DCTF 40-under-40. Joe Morris originally departed the Kats following the 2023 season to serve as defensive line coach at New Mexico State. Morris was recently named defensive coordinator for the Aggies following the retirement of Jerry Kill and the promotion of Tony Sanchez to head coach.
