Texas junior tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders has declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. ESPN's Pete Thamel was the first to report.
Sanders, a five-star from Denton Ryan in the class of 2021, chose to play offense at the University of Texas when many predicted he'd transition to a full-time defensive end. He ends his career as the program's all-time leader in receptions by a tight end with 99, which he did in two seasons of action after playing primarily special teams as a freshman.
A two-time First Team All-Big 12 selection, Sanders compiled 1,295 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in the 2022 and 2023 seasons combined. He's a projected first-round pick and the No.2-overall tight end behind Georgia's Brock Bowers on Mel Kiper's 2024 Big Board.
Texas has now lost leading receiver Xavier Worthy, leading rusher Jonathon Brooks and Sanders to the Draft. The Longhorns await the decisions of wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and quarterback Quinn Ewers to see if the offense needs to be completely rehauled in the offseason.
