Cameron Yoe head coach Rick Rhoades announced his retirement to his team on Thursday.

The three-time state champion head coach steps down in his second stint at Yoe after three seasons at the helm.

Rhoades had his greatest successes in the small Central Texas town of Cameron where he led the Yoemen to three consecutive state titles from 2012-2014. He also led Yoe to the state title game in 2010 and 2015.

Rhoades spent 20 seasons as a head coach overall posting a 166-79 record. His first head coaching stint came at New Braunfels where spent five seasons leading the Unicorns from 2000-2004. In 2002, he led the NBHS to the 4A-Division I state title game.

After a stint as an assistant coach at Converse Judson and Coppell from 2005-2008, Rhoades returned to the head coaching ranks in 2009 at Yoe. After going 6-4 in his first year, Rhoades had the Yoemen in the state title game in 2010, which started a run of the Yoemen playing in five state title games in six seasons.

In early 2016 after Yoe’s loss in the state title game to Brock, Rhoades took over at Class 5A Gregory-Portland. Although the Wildcats posted winning seasons in three of his five seasons, they were unable to advance to the postseason.

Rhoades returned to Cameron in 2021 and after a 4-7 first season, the Yoemen posted a regional semifinal appearance in 2022 before stumbling to a tough 3-7 mark in 2023.
