The Hitchcock Bulldogs came to College Station with the Division II 7-on-7 belt, figuratively; they left with the belt, literally.

Lloyd Jones III threw four touchdown passes and intercepted a pass on defense, and Damien McDaniel picked off a would-be game-tying pass in the end zone in the final moments as Hitchcock made history by winning its second consecutive Division II State 7-on-7 championship with a 27-20 win over Anna on Friday afternoon in College Station.

"It did feel different," Jones said about this year's win compared to last. "We knew we were going to have a target on our back. We were going to get their best game. So we just needed to match every team that came our way."

After falling behind early to a fiesty Coyotes squad, Jones and the Hitchcock attack went to work, hitting Chase Bruton and Kelshun Johnson for a pair of touchdowns to pull the Bulldogs within 14-12 at halftime. Interspersed within the scoring drives, the teams traded interceptions — one thrown by Jones, and one hauled in by him.

In the second half, Hitchcock began to really cook — Jones found Bruton for their second connection of the game to take their first lead of the game and, after Anna answered back on a methodical drive, Jones hit Johnson for what proved to be the championship-winning touchdown.

Anna drove into position in the final minute, but McDaniel's leaping interception in the end zone sealed the historic victory.

Sophomore quarterback Ziondre Williams shined for Anna, throwing three touchdowns and showing touch beyond his years. But the day belonged to Hitchcock, though the Bulldogs have their eyes set on greater goals.

"It's great, but we're trying to get a real ring," McDaniel said. "We just got to do it in pads now."
