Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has learned that Tarleton assistant football coach Marc Martinez died in a motor vehicle accident Friday morning.

Martinez arrived at Tarleton in 2011 after graduating from Waco Midway High School and never left Stephenville. He was a standout linebacker for the Texans during his playing career, where he was a two-time All-Lone Star Conference selection and led the team in tackles during his senior season.

Following his successful playing career, Martinez transitioned to Tarleton’s coaching staff. His career on the sidelines began as a graduate assistant assisting the linebackers.

Martinez transitioned into the full-time linebackers coach in 2017 and was instrumental in the development of former Texan and current Indianapolis Colts linebacker EJ Speed and All-Western Athletic Conference linebacker Ronnell Wilson.

A talented young coach, Martinez also served as the football program’s summer camp director for the last five years. Martinez was 30 years old and is survived by his wife, Laci, and two daughters, Estella and Camilla. A friend of Laci's has set up a Go Fund Me page to help the family with expenses during this difficult time. If you wish to contribute, you can donate here.
