The wait is over. A long battle at quarterback between Haynes King and Max Johnson ended Saturday afternoon when JImbo Fisher named King the starter for Texas A&M entering the opener of the 2022 season a week from today at home against Sam Houston. King, a state champion at Longview High School under the direction of his dad, was the starter to begin the 2021 season, as well, but only played in two games before a season-ending injury to his ankle.

He threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns on 21 of 33 passing in his first career start, which was a 41-10 win over Kent State. He was injured the following week in the first quarter of a game against Colorado.

King was a four-star recruit out of Longview in the 2020 recruiting class. He played in two games as a freshman in 2020. King was an Under Armour All-American in high school. Johnson transferred to Texas A&M from LSU over the offseason. The Aggies also like true freshman Conner Weigman. TexAgs was first to report.
