Matt Wells is out as Texas Tech's head coach, multiple reports confirm.

Offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie will reportedly replace Wells as the interim head coach for the rest of the season. The news was first reported by Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Wells went 13-17 at the helm in Lubbock, having never won back-to-back games in Big 12 play.

Tech's recent loss to Kansas State appeared to be the final straw. The Red Raiders took a commanding 24-10 lead into the half only to los 25-24 in front of their home crowd.

Wells replaced Kliff Kingsbury in Nov. 2018 after a successful stint at Utah State.
