THREE QUARTERBACKS THAT IMPRESSED

Waskom QB Cole Watson
One of the first players that caught our eye early in the tournament, the super sophomore signal-caller for the Wildcats looked razor-sharp in pool play, showing exceptional accuracy and a strong arm. Coach Whitney Keeling has been talking him up for a couple of years now, and it’s easy to see why he’s so excited. We know the Wildcats can run the ball; if they’re going to get this kind of production from the passing game, watch out.

Denton Guyer QB Jackson Arnold
You may remember this name from the 2019 6A Division II state championship game — when star QB Eli Stowers went down, it was the freshman Arnold who was fed to the Austin Westlake defensive wolves. That feels like eons ago, considering how Arnold (now a junior) looked in College Station. The ball explodes out of his hand, firing dart after dart to his targets, and he looked in complete command of the offense. I’m not a recruiting expert, but I haven’t seen a better quarterback in the Class of 2023 in Texas.

Spring QB Bishop Davenport
Already one of my favorite players in the state, the Lions’ quarterback did nothing to dissuade me from driving the Bishop bandwagon. I’m not sure I saw a quarterback with better deep-ball touch than Davenport, dropping it in the bucket over and over with relative ease. It was also impressive to see him roll out of the pocket and make throws on the move — we know he’s a solid running threat, and his ability to extend plays makes him even more dangerous heading into the fall.
