Team of the Week:

No. 3 Tarleton Texans (11-0, 8-0)

Last Week: Tarleton trailed at the half for the first time this season but responded with 27 points in the second half to earn a 41-24 win on the road over Western New Mexico last Saturday afternoon. Quarterback Ben Holmes came through in the clutch as he completed 19-of-34 passes for 451 yards and four touchdowns. Zimari Manning added to his NCAA lead in receiving touchdowns with three touchdowns and 196 yards on six catches. Ryheem Skinner added two rushing touchdowns and 67 yards on nine carries for the Texans. Prince Robinson showed once again why he is one of the top defensive backs at any level with seven tackles, five solo, and broke up one pass. The Texans defense held WNMU to 288 total yards of offense with only 90 total yards rushing.

The Verdict: The Texans had a tougher game than expected last week, but Silver City, N.M. is a weird place to play football and has caused issues for multiple teams over the years. Tarleton was able to have a big second half and take control to win its second consecutive Lone Star Conference title outright. Head coach Todd Whitten has done an incredible job rebuilding the Texans football program and Tarleton has earned the No. 2 seed in the region in the NCAA playoffs for the second straight year.

This Week: Tarleton will host No. 21 Texas A&M-Commerce in the first round of the NCAA playoffs at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
