Team of the Week:

Abilene Christian Wildcats (5-4, 4-3)

Last week: ACU overcame a fourth-quarter rally last Saturday as the defense recovered a fumble in overtime and Tracy James scored the game-winning touchdown to lead the Wildcats to a huge 37-31 win on the road over No. 15 Nicholls. James finished with 75 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 16 carries while dual-threat quarterback Sema’J Davis added 146 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Wide receiver Kobe Clark had a huge game with 11 receptions for 72 yards and Luke Anthony completed 25-of-37 passes for 181 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Linebacker Jeremiah Chambers once again led the Wildcats defense with seven tackles, all solo, three tackles for loss and two sacks. Brandon Richmond was huge for ACU as he intercepted a Hail Mary pass to force overtime and forced and recovered the fumble in overtime to set up the winning score.

The Verdict: The Wildcats were able to keep their playoff hopes alive with a big road win over a tough team. This win is possibly the most impressive win since ACU moved to FCS and is a huge step forward for the program in head coach Adam Dorrell’s third season. The two-quarterback system that Dorrell has employed in recent weeks has worked to perfection. ACU has a week off to prepare for a huge home game against Sam Houston State who owns one of the top defenses in the country.

This Week: ACU has a bye this week.
