Houston quarterback D’Eriq King will miss the remainder of the 2018 season with a torn meniscus, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Joseph Duarte.

King went out in the second quarter of Houston’s 48-17 win against Tulane after a non-contact knee injury. He gave a handoff to running back Patrick Carr and came up hobbling. King was carted off the sideline and transported to a hospital for additional tests and an MRI.

The Manvel junior was in the midst of one of the best seasons in college football. King leads the nation with 50 total touchdowns. The mark ranks No. 4 in program history for total touchdowns in a season, just five behind David Klinger’s program record. King also threw for 2,982 yards and rushed for another 674 yards.

In King’s place, Houston is expected to turn to Carrollton Hebron freshman Clayton Tune. In his first meaningful snaps of the season, Tune completed 6-of-15 passes for 108 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. The Cougars also have Tennessee transfer quarterback Quinten Dormady on the roster.

Houston faces off against Memphis in Tennessee on Nov. 23. A game time and network has yet to be determined. If the Tigers beat SMU on Friday, it will serve as a de facto division title game for the American West.
