Offers from Oklahoma and Sam Houston brought the offer tally to 20 for Jasper 2024 ILB Ty'Anthony "Ty" Smith (6'2, 205), who was recently named as the LB MVP at the Next Level Athlete Texas Top 100 Showcase in Houston.
Smith also has offers from Auburn, Baylor, Boston College, LSU, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, UTSA and UIW.
He has not sat down to formulate a favorites list at this point in his recruitment, but it is safe to say that in-state schools like Baylor, Texas and Texas A&M have already impacted his thought process.
Baylor: "The Baylor Bears. They have been with me since day one, almost. Coach (Dave) Aranda, when he talks I just lock in. He don't even talk about football. It is about person over player up there at Baylor. I feel like that is a very important thing in this recruiting process is getting to know the player before the athletic ability. Baylor does a well job at that."
Texas: "Texas has been very good with recruiting. They got some real good linebackers and that's not my worry, I feel like I could learn from those big linebackers out of the '23 class. They are on the gas. All gas no brakes. I feel like they are actually doing what they say."
Texas A&M: "Coach (Alex) Garwig and Coach (Tyler) Santucci. Every time I go up there it is all love. You (are) feeling the atmosphere. They told me about the personnel and everything else and where I would fit at and everything, but also they have been talking about academics and person over player, so that is very important for Texas A&M. I plan on getting a closer relationship with them as well."
Smith is still hungry to get offers from Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin.
