In shocking news, the Allen Eagles have another Division I recruit suiting up for them this fall.

Caleb Smith boasts offers from Incarnate Word, Utah, and most recently, Texas Tech. Allen's enjoyed plenty of these stellar athletes over the last 16 years, winning at least 10 games every season and hoisting five state title trophies. It's a formula. The players go through the program, they win at an enourmous clip, then they get noticed by major college programs.

But Smith hasn't played for the Eagles before, and he's not even guaranteed to play on varsity this year. In fact, he's not technically in high school yet.

The Class of 2026 rising freshman earned all his offers thus far based off his performance at Ford Middle School as the team's quarterback. Smith led a vaunted spread, read-option attack on offense, punching in 37 touchdowns with 1,890 rushing yards in just nine games as Ford won their second district championship in as many years. His explosiveness on the field earned him his first offer from Utah in October of the 2021 season at just 14 years old. In January, he traveled to Orlando, Florida, for the Under Armour Futures All American Game showcasing the top eighth-grade talent in the nation.

Smith is known as "The Jet", and one look at him on the track explains why. He set a school record in the 100m Dash with a time of 10.57 in March and also ran on a record setting 4x100 relay and 4x200 relay team.

Now Smith is gearing up for his first season on an Allen team that is once again in a head coaching transition.

In March 2021, former SMU and Arkansas head coach Chad Morris replaced Terry Gambill, who retired after compiling a 65–4 record in five seasons, in a highly publicized hiring. Morris, however, resigned this May after just one season in which he led the Eagles to an 11–3 record and the regional finals. Now, Lee Wiginton is the third head coach for the Eagles in the past three years after moving over from Midlothian Heritage, where he won four district championships and earned a 61–19 record in six seasons.

But it's also a transition on the field for Smith, who presumably will not play quarterback as he did in middle school and instead line up at wide receiver.

That's because Allen is set at the signal-caller spot with rising junior Michael Hawkins Jr., who earned District 5-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year offers in 2021. Hawkins, who's rated as a DCTF four-star, threw for 2,807 yards with 21 touchdowns and only five interceptions in his first season at the helm. He's also a running threat, churning out 730 yards on the ground with eight touchdowns. He currently holds offers from Michigan, SMU and Nebraska, among others.

If Smith earns a spot on the Varsity team as a freshman, Hawkins is going to need The Jet's explosiveness on offense. The Eagles are trying to replace unanimous District Co-MVP Jaylen Jenkins at running back, who's off to Washington State, as well as unanimous First-Team wide reciever Jordyn Tyson, who's set to play this season for Colorado.

He may only be an incoming freshman, but The Jet's got next.
