Mason Dossett is only a sophomore at Fort Bend Ridge Point, but he’s already earned the nickname “D1 DOSS”. That’s because he’ll potentially play at the highest collegiate level in three different sports.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 180-pound athlete competed for the Panthers throughout the entire academic calendar. He served as a running back and wide receiver for head coach Rick LaFavers’ 11–2 football team before winning an Area Championship as a 110m Hurdler. Now, he’s in the midst of a State Title run for Ridge Point’s baseball club.

Sharing reps with 3-star junior running back Ezell Jolly, Dossett managed 737 all-purpose yards with eight total touchdowns as the Panthers powered to a District 20-6A Championship. Ridge Point’s 1-2 backfield punch will be back in 2022 as the Panthers look to avenge their three-point, third round playoff loss to Humble Atascocita. 

Ridge Point has the luxury of two running backs with Division I offers. Jolly, a 2nd-Team All District honoree, holds offers to Baylor and Boston College, among others. Dossett already has scholarship opportunities with Buffalo and Georgia Tech despite not even starting a game yet.

That's because Dossett has what college coaches can't get enough of: Speed.

The sophomore capped off an elite track and field season with a blazing 13.66 second 110m hurdle time in the 6A Region III area round, one of numerous outstanding Panther performances that led to an Area Championship. Dossett announced on May 5 that he would compete at the Nike Outdoor Nationals at the University of Oregon from June 16-19.

That scorching speed has translated to the baseball diamond, where the sophomore center fielder made this diving catch in Game 1 of the 6A Region 3 quarterfinals. The Panthers would go on to sweep the three-game series in an upset against the No.1-ranked Katy Tompkins Falcons. Ridge Point is now set to play a three-game series against Pearland High School for the Regional Semifinals. Game 1 is Thursday at the University of Houston at 7:00 p.m.

Mason is the latest Dossett man to refuse to compete in just one sport. Mason's father, Martin, played running back and wide receiver for Baylor from 1997-2000. He also continued his track and field career into college before finally choosing football once he signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent. Dossett later suited up for NFL Europe before ending his career with the Corpus Christi Hammerheads of the Intense Football League.

Mason will get his chance to earn more Division I football offers this fall as Ridge Point looks to capture their third-straight District Title. He just has to catch some more fly balls first.
