Needville 2021 DL/OL Blake Boenisch (6-4, 330) is the kind of guy who knows what he wants. And when it came to college recruiting, sometimes the first offer that comes in is exactly what is needed.
This was the case for Boenisch.
"Rice offered me earlier this year, and in March, I committed," Boenisch said. "I went to the junior day and fell in love with all of it. It's close to home, great D1 ball, and a nice education. Rice was all I needed."
Up to this point, Rice was the only offer for Boenisch, but from his level of excitement, not much else compares. After a season where he finished with nearly 50 tackles and two sacks, the Rice coaches had seen enough to extend the offer.
The excitement for all that Rice has to offer has Boenisch more than ready to line up with his future team. That is, of course, after the unfinished business with his guys at Needville. The season has already started with three games completed for the Blue Jays.
At Rice, Boenisch will line up in the defensive line's interior, where he has seen plenty of success.
"The (Rice) coaches love my explosiveness and size, and my ability to control the offensive line," Boenisch said. "I will line up at nose or defensive tackle, wherever they need me. I feel good about my choice, and (I) am mentally prepared due to my high school coaches' good work."
Good vibes are present from both the Rice coaches and the Boenisch family. The star defensive tackle said that in addition to keeping in touch with him, the Rice coaches and his family's relationship is also impressive.
Love is shared on both sides.
"I have a great relationship with the coaches. We talk about every other day it seems," Boenisch said. "The coaches treat my family special, as well. I love the coaches, and all of the staff and my family is 100 percent in support of my decision."
