Multiple sources have confirmed to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football that former UTSA coach Brad Sherrod will be named the next head coach at Texas Wesleyan. An official announcement is expected soon.

Sherrod spent the last three seasons serving as linebackers coach at UTSA under Jeff Traylor. Before joining the Roadrunners, Sherrod served as safeties coach at Tennessee State in 2020 after three seasons coaching outside linebackers at Wake Forest.

The veteran coach’s first move to Texas was in 2014 when he joined Sam Houston as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. He served in this position for two years before becoming defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in 2016.

Sherrod's other stops include Elon, Delaware, Western Carolina, 11 seasons with his alma mater at Duke, East Tennessee State, and UMass. This will be his first experience in NAIA and first head coaching position.

Sherrod will be the second head coach since the Rams resurrected the football program in 2017. He replaces Joe Prud’homme, who built the program into a perennial contender in the Sooner Athletic Conference during his eight-year tenure. The Rams posted a 24-7 record during the last three seasons and earned a share of the Sooner Athletic Conference title in the previous two years.

Texas Wesleyan is completing a $16.5 million on-campus facility with an NCAA-certified track, field house, bleachers, press box, and concessions. Sherrod must help raise funds to complete the stadium and fund the Rams football program. However, his first responsibility will be keeping his talented roster from entering the transfer portal.
