After a stellar season that heartbreakingly fell short in the Sweet Sixteen following an injury to senior point guard Jamal Shead, Houston leads our All-Texas awards with 11 total recognitions including All-Texas Player and Coach of the Year. Shead was the heart and soul of the Cougars averaging 12.9 points, over six assists and 2.2 steals per game. The Manor graduate was also a consensus All-American, Naismith Defensive Player of the Year and Big 12 Player of the Year.

In their first season in the Big 12, Kelvin Sampson led Houston to a regular season championship and a 32-5 overall record and the nation's top defense, according to Kenpom, for much of the season. Shead recently declared for the NBA Draft
