Lake Worth ISD made it official on Monday by naming Duncanville offensive coordinator and former DeSoto head coach Todd Peterman the next athletic director/head football coach at Lake Worth High School.

Peterman steps in as Lake Worth’s third head coach in three seasons after the resignation of Jerry Prieto, who stepped down to take over at Class 5A Dayton.

“I’m really excited to be an athletic director/head football coach again," Peterman said. "Lake Worth ISD has strong administration and the athletic program needs some stability and I’m hopeful I can provide that stability. The location is really attractive for us. It’s 15 minutes from home. Lake Worth is a one-school town and in 2022 they were a three round playoff team, so they’ve been successful recently. I’m really excited to build on that success."

Peterman, a native of Rush Springs, Oklahoma, is best known for his long tenure at DeSoto High School where he spent nine seasons (2009-2017), serving as offensive coordinator for six seasons and head coach for three seasons. Peterman led the Eagles to their first state title in school history in 2016 by posting a 16-0 record. He compiled a 32-8 overall record in three seasons.

He resigned from DeSoto in January 2018 and a couple of months later was named athletic director/head coach at White Settlement Brewer. Peterman spent four seasons leading the Bears where he posted a 20-21 overall record, leading BHS to the playoffs in 2018 and 2021. His last team at Brewer posted an 8-3 mark.

After resigning from Brewer in February 2022, Peterman quietly landed at Duncanville High School, where he teamed up with legendary head coach Reginald Samples as the Panthers offensive coordinator. Duncanville had fallen short of winning a state title in three of the past four seasons losing in the state title game in 2018, 2019 and 2021 and falling in the semifinals in 2020. Peterman’s addition to the staff at Duncanville coincided with Duncanville giving Coach Samples his long-awaited state title in 2022 and 2023.

Peterman also has been an assistant coach with stops at Odessa High, Midland High, Tyler John Tyler, Terrell and Denison.
