The Snyder ISD school board has voted to rename Tiger Stadium to Grant Teaff Tiger Stadium in honor of Snyder High School alum and legendary Baylor head coach Grant Teaff. The dedication will take place at some point at a Snyder home game this fall.

Teaff is among the most respected football coaches in the history of college football, not only for his coaching prowess on the field, but for his character off the field. He has multiple awards bearing his name, including the Grant Teaff Coach of the Year Award given by the FCA, and the Grant Teaff Beyond The Game Team Award, which recognizes servant leadership and community service initiatives by Texas high school sports teams; this award has the support of the THSCA and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

“I’m overwhelmed by this wonderful gesture," Teaff said. "When you grow up in a place and your dreams and desires about life are focused in that one community with your teachers, coaches and teammates, it’s really special."

Teaff was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001. Teaff served as executive director of the AFCA from 1993-2016.

Teaff is best known for his tenure as the beloved head coach of the Baylor Bears from 1972-1992 where he compiled a 170-151-8 record leading the Bears to four bowl wins and authoring the 1974 “Miracle On the Brazos” when heavy underdog Baylor rallied from a 24-7 halftime deficit against mighty Texas to stun the Longhorns and win the Southwest Conference title.

"Snyder is very important to me for those reasons," he said. "That’s where I made up my mind that I wanted to coach. It’s such a big deal for me and my family. My family is so appreciative of the community of Snyder, the coaching staff and the school board for this honor. I couldn’t be happier, I’ve been blessed to have a lot of honors in my career but to me this is the high points, because Snyder is where I dreamed the dream of coaching.”
