Cypress Creek head coach Greg McCaig has officially announced his retirement after a 41-year coaching career, 21 of which were spent leading the Cougars.

“My wife just announced her retirement last month and I’m really looking forward to doing some traveling, enjoying life and maybe having some free time this fall,” McCaig said.

McCaig posted a 148-143 overall record in 27 years as a head coach at Giddings, Houston Stratford and Cy Creek. He led Giddings to a regional final appearance in 1998 and twice led Cy Creek to the regional finals.

McCaig, who will continue to serve on the Texas State 7-on-7 Board of Directors, says his retirement will be effective at the end of the school year.

“I enjoyed every minute of coaching," he said. "I loved my job. I went to work in shorts and got to run around with kids. It was as good as it gets and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

Cy-Fair ISD has the Cy-Creek head football coaching job posted on the Cy-Fair ISD website and the search should ramp up right after spring break.
