New Braunfels High School has named La Vernia head coach Brad Molder to the same position, New Braunfels ISD announced Monday.

Molder replaces Glen Mangold, who retired from public school education and is taking over as the head coach at TAPPS San Antonio Central Catholic.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Molder to lead boys athletics at NBHS,” said NBISD Athletic Director Richard Mendoza in a district press release. “He has a track record of being successful at every coaching stop he has made, but more importantly, he will serve as a leader and character builder for all of our student athletes and coaches.”

Molder has led La Vernia’s athletic program that past two seasons as the athletic director/head football coach posting an impressive 19-6 overall record, including last year’s 10-3 mark and Class 4A-Division I regional final appearance.

Prior to La Vernia, Molder spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach at Schertz Clements and 11 seasons as an assistant at Converse Judson. Molder was part of Judson’s 2002 state championship staff and state runner-up in 2005 and 2007.

Molder is a graduate of Kerrville Tivy and played his college football at Sam Houston State.

Molder takes over a Unicorn program that will be making the move from Class 6A to Class 5A next school year with the opening of NBISD's second high school, Long Creek High School.

His departure from La Vernia leaves a very attractive opening in the San Antonio area at a Class 4A-Division I program.
