Alvin ISD on Tuesday night promoted Shadow Creek assistant head coach Tyrone Green to be the next head football coach at Shadow Creek High School.

Green replaces Brad Butler, who retired in Jaunary from the program he built from the ground up and led to the 5A-Division I state championship in 2019.

Green, a native of Mississippi, has spent all of his adult life in Houston as after his playing days at the University of Houston wrapped up. Green started his coaching journey in 2003 as an assistant at Houston Lamar, spending five seasons working for legendary head coach Tom Nolen.

After spending the 2008 season on staff at Manvel, Green returned to Lamar where he spent seven additional seasons on staff before heading to Shadow Creek in July 2016 to help start the program up under Butler.

Green’s hiring continues a trend in Alvin ISD as the district has promoted from within on many of its head coaching hires in recent memory. Butler was brought over from Manvel High School where he was an assistant under Kirk Martin. When Martin departed Manvel to join the college ranks, AISD promoted one of Martin’s top assistants in Kevin Hall. When it decided to open its fourth high school, Iowa Colony, Alvin ISD hired one of Butler’s top assistants in Ray Garza to start the program up in December 2021. In the spring of 2023, when Hall decided to retire at Manvel, Alvin ISD went outside for its hire, but it was to a familiar face as former Manvel HC Kirk Martin was re-hired after he spent two seasons at Colleyville Heritage as their head coach.
