Corpus Christi Miller (13-0) vs. Brownsville Veterans Memorial (11-2), 7 p.m. Friday at Brownsville’s Sams Stadium: The showdown in Region IV that everyone anticipated prior to the playoffs didn’t take place and that’s because Brownsville Veterans Memorial had different ideas as they rolled past PSHA North, 45-28.

The key for the Chargers was the defense, which forced eight (yes eight) turnovers.

Brownsville Veterans was led by district MVP Gilbert Trillo, who had 105 yards and four touchdowns; he also had an INT. QB Storm Montoya added a pair of touchdown passes.

Miller got a big push from district rival Victoria West last week as the Bucs needed a last second touchdown to escape with a 51-48 win. QB Trevor Long tossed six touchdown passes, while RB Broderick Taylor ran for 178 yards and a touchdown and WR Corey Holmes had 149 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

The key in this game for Brownsville Vets will be if it can contain Miller’s speed on the edge. For Miller, can its defense win early downs and force Vets into obvious passing situations.

I’m giving the edge in this one to Miller on the road as long as the Bucs offense can hang on to the ball.

Pick: Corpus Christi Miller by 6
