Sealy ISD on Wednesday afternoon named Midland Legacy assistant coach Clint Finley as their next athletic director/head football coach replacing Shane Mobley who left on June 8 to become the athletic director at Peaster ISD just west of Fort Worth.

Finley has had success as both a player and a coach in the state of Texas, first as a player where was an all-state quarterback at Cuero under his father head coach Mickey Finley. He then played from 1996-2000 at Nebraska where he was a four-year letterman in the secondary.

After a brief stint in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, Finley began his coaching career as an assistant at Arlington High School, he then moved to Cleburne and then Schulenberg before becoming the offensive coordinator at Victoria Memorial.

In April 2010, Coach Finley got a chance to be a head coach as he became AD/Head Football Coach at Los Fresnos, a Class 6A program in the Rio Grande Valley. In six seasons at Los Fresnos, Finley posted a strong 48-21 record leading the Falcons. He led Los Fresnos to the playoffs in all six years with his best season coming in 2014 as Los Fresnos finished 10-3 and made a regionals semifinal appearance.

In 2016, Finley was named head football coach at Big Spring, but things just never worked out in his short stint with the Steers as he resigned after one season in which Big Spring posted an 0-9 mark. From 2017-2021 Finley was out of coaching working in private business, before jumping back into coaching this past season where he served as an assistant coach on Clint Hartman’s staff at Midland Legacy.

“I grew up in Cuero and when I played we always had a really good rivalry with Sealy. There’s great tradition here and Sealy always has good athletes and kids who want to work. There’s high expectations here and that’s a great fit because I have those same high expectations as well, Sealy reminds me a lot of Cuero, the two places are similar,” said Finley.   

Finley says he’s planning on hitting the ground running, “I’m actually going to meet the kids tomorrow and watch them go through summer workouts, I’ve got to get to know the kids and coaches, we don’t have much time,” said the new Sealy head coach.
