Gunter had a marvelous run in 2022, capturing the 3A Division II state crown with a 42-7 win over Poth.

The team is loaded up to make another run in 2023, powered by top college prospects already receiving attention from college programs.

Top Prospects

2025 S Colin Peacock (6'2, 195): College coaches looking for talent in the 2025 cycle should check out this defensive standout, a crucial figure in Gunter's state title run. Tigers fans must be pumped about having him around for two more seasons! He is still looking for his first offer, but programs like Baylor, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech, UTSA and Oklahoma are all showing serious interest, so it will only be a matter of time. Peacock, who runs the anchor leg on Gunter's 4x100 relay team, took home Defensive MVP honors in the state championship win at AT&T Stadium.

"Physically, he is a guy who has all the measurables," Gunter head coach Jake Fieszel said. "More than that, he is a kid who is a football junkie. He understands the game. He is in the weight room all the time, he's on the track, he's constantly trying to improve himself."

2024 WR Cannon Lemberg (5'11, 185): Lemberg was named to the 2022 DCTF All-State 7-on-7 Team. An athletic wide receiver who can flip over and provide minutes on defense when needed. He has led the team in receptions over the past two seasons. His ability to stretch defenses opens up some huge holes for a potent Gunter rushing attack. Lemberg projects as a college slot wide receiver and has already secured offers from Sam Houston and Marshall. SFA, Duke, Furman, Navy and UNLV are also showing attention. Lemberg is an excellent student with a 3.94 GPA and a 4.51 40-yard dash.

"He's a guy who is always in the weight room," Fieszel said. "He's always out trying to improve his craft, getting extra work and running routes and constantly trying to work. His best attribute is his grittiness and toughness. The things that show up in games."

Best of the Rest

2024 LB Brayden Hinton (6'0, 195): Hinton is a throwback who leaves it all on the field. A linebacker projection who lines up at defensive end in high school, using his speed and full-send mentality to collect tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Hinton is described as a "wrecking ball." East Central has extended an offer, and he is catching interest from Colgate, Fordham, Tulsa and Yale.

2025 K Preston Tarpley (6'2, 170): Tarpley was recently named a four-star by Kohl's Kicking, marking him as one of the top-rated players at the position in Texas in the 2025 cycle. He has 55-yard range, completed 82/82 of his extra points, and was 8/11 on field goals as a sophomore in 2022. Tarpley has picked up recent interest from SMU, UIW and Oregon State.

Other Names to Know: 2024 QB Luke Dodd (6'1, 190), 2024 TE Cole Harpole (6'3, 195), 2025 OL Brayden Robinson (6'6, 240)
