Troy athletic director and head football coach Stephen Hermesmeyer announced to his team on Wednesday that he was resigning his post after two seasons at the helm.

Hermesmeyer cited primarily family reasons for the resignation, “I just turned 50 and I guess it just hit me I needed to spend some more time with my kids playing golf, doing some hunting and fishing and just being around more. I won’t close the door on coaching, but I have my prinicipal’s certification and my wife is a counselor and she’s followed me around all these years, it’s time for me to follow her around this time, she’s been loyal and everything you’d ever want in a coaches wife,” said Hermesmeyer.

It was two challenging seasons at Troy as the Trojans went 4-16 in Hermesmeyer’s tenure, overall in fifteen seasons as a head coach at Winters, Comanche and Troy, Coach Hermesmeyer has an 88-80 record.

Heremesmeyer, who will continue as Troy ISD athletic director until a replacement is hired said nothing but good things about his time in Troy, “Troy was great to us, and I want to give the administration plenty of time to find a quality candidate and I don’t wait until May to resign when I know I’m not coming back, these kids deserve to have the best coach possible.”
