Arlington Martin offensive coordinator Chad Rives has been promoted to head coach of the Warriors, Arlington ISD announced on Tuesday.

Rives replaces Bob Wager, who stepped down in late December to take a position on staff at Nebraska with new head coach Matt Rhule.

Rives has spent the last 15 seasons at Arlington Martin working under Wager. He’s also coached at Groveton, Tolar and Morton where he coached under his father Don Rives, who was head coach at Morton for ten seasons. This will be his first chance at being a head coach.

Coach Rives played collegiately at Texas A&M-Commerce and has coached numerous Division I college football players who have come through the Arlington Martin system. Rives will have big shoes to fill replacing the winningest coach in Arlington Martin history as Wager led the Warriors to the playoffs in all 17 of his seasons and won an impressive 143 total games.

Arlington Martin will enter the 2022 season as the favorite once again in District 8-6A and the Warriors new head coach will have a chance to prove himself right away as Martin opens the season up in the Austin area taking on perennial power Lake Travis.
