Flatonia ISD on Thursday night named former West Columbia head coach Brent Mascheck as the next athletic director/head football coach at Flatonia High School. Coach Mascheck replaces Chris Freytag who resigned after thirteen outstanding seasons leading the Bulldogs.

Mascheck comes to Flatonia with a wealth of experience having spent eighteen seasons as a head coach with stops at Columbus, Tidehaven and the past seven seasons leading Class 4A West Columbia. He has a career record of 93-96 with four trips to the area round of the playoffs.

Expect Flatonia to run a variation of the Wing-T offense which Mascheck has run at all of his previous stops as a head coach and most in the area believe that scheme will fit Flatonia well. “Flatonia has a rich athletic and academic history and we have been wanting to move into a smaller district for a while. My wife and I have a lot of family in the area in Yoakum and Shiner, so getting closer to the area was huge for us. Coach Freytag did a great job with the program and I am excited to get started and build on that foundation,” said Coach Mascheck.
