Tyler ISD filled the second of their two head coaching vacancies on Thursday morning by naming University of Tulsa QB Coach and Passing Game Coordinator Beau Trahan the next head football coach at Tyler Legacy High School.

Trahan replaces Joe Willis, who announced his retirement earlier this month after leading the Red Raiders for three seasons.

Trahan, who has extensive ties to the state of Texas, has spent the past seven seasons as an assistant on the staff at Tulsa, whose staff under former head coach Philip Montgomery featured several coaches with ties to the state.

Before Tulsa, Trahan spent eight years at Baylor University. He spent his final two seasons as the Bears’ assistant athletic director in charge of high school relations and coordinator of recruiting for football. Before that, Trahan served as Baylor’s director of football operations for three seasons and previously was the director of high school relations for three years.

Trahan began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Texas, he spent one season as a graduate assistant at the University of Houston, and worked for three years with his father Warren Trahan at Dickinson High School, which up to this point is his only experience at the high school level.

Trahan was a four-year letterman at the University of Texas from 1999-2002 and was a four-year starter at Bay City High School. Trahan comes from a coaching family as his father Warren Trahan won 194 games in thirty seasons as a head coach at Cy-Fair, Bay City and Dickinson and Trahan’s brother Brody Trahan coached with him at Tulsa before moving to Rockwall-Heath as defensive coordinator.
