Sources confirmed to DCTF that Washington State offensive coordinator Eric Morris will be named the next head coach at North Texas. Morris, who spent the 2022 season at Washington State, was the head coach at FCS program Incarnate Word, located in San Antonio, from 2018 to 2021.

Morris built that program from the ground-up, leaving with a 24-18 record overall. The Cardinals were 10-3 in his final season in charge – the first double-digit win season in program history. Incarnate Word won two Southland Conference championships behind an explosive offense and an opportunistic defense.

"We are truly excited to welcome Coach Eric Morris and his family to North Texas,” North Texas athletic director Jared Mosley said. “From early in our process Eric was able to clearly articulate his vision for UNT and what we can do in the short term to build momentum as we transition to the American Athletic Conference."

Morris is a Texas native who played wide receiver at Texas Tech under the late Mike Leach. He entered coaching in 2010 as a quality control assistant in 2019 and then a GA in 2011. He eventually became the offensive coordinator at Texas Tech by 2014 and remained there until taking over UIW in 2018.

“I am incredibly honored to be the head football coach at North Texas,” Morris said. “I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity given to me by Jared Mosley and President Smatresk to lead UNT Football into a new era in The American."

Seven wins and a trip to the Conference USA title game wasn't enough to save Seth Littrell. North Texas lost 48-27 to UTSA in the C-USA championship game on Friday night. Littrell finishes his stint in Denton with an overall record of 44-44 and a 32-23 mark in conference games. He led them to nine wins in 2017 and 2018. The program qualified for a bowl game in six of his seven years, including this season.
