SMU football has added a commitment from high-profile Florida transfer DB Jahari Rogers. Rogers should have four years of eligibility remaining with the Mustangs.

Rogers entered the transfer portal on March 31 and had significant attention from Power Five schools. However, he ultimately decided to head home and become the latest blue-chip transfer to join Sonny Dykes' program on The Hilltop.

The class of 2020 product will have a shot to step on campus right away and compete with a talented defensive back room for the second starting cornerback spot. Experienced starter Ar'mani Johnson is back, along with Brandon Crossley and Sam Westfall.

Before enrolling at Florida, Rogers ranked among the highest profile athletes in the state of Texas. The 247Sports composite ranked the Arlington High School product as the No. 87 player in the nation and No. 11 player in Texas in the 2020 recruiting class. Rogers held offers from virtually every school in America, including Texas, Alabama, Georgia and LSU.

Rogers earned District 4-6A MVP honors as a junior quarterback after throwing for 2,670 yards, rushing for 819 yards and posting 46 total touchdowns for Arlington. The Colts reached the 6A-DII Regional Finals during his senior season, when he focused on learning the DB position.

Rogers is at least the ninth Power Five transfer to join the Mustangs this offseason, including former Oklahoma TE Grant Calcaterra and QB Tanner Mordecai, Auburn OT Justin Osborne and Missouri OT Thalen Robinson.

The Mustangs added longtime college football presence Jim Leavitt as its new defensive coordinator over the offseason after Kevin Kane left for a job at Illinois.
