He got moved up for one game during his freshman season to get a feel for the game. Now it seems as though Katy Morton Ranch 2023 DE David Hicks (6-2, 212) is not only ready but poised to dominate in 2020.

After watching the 2023 pass-rushing prospect at the Next Level Athlete Texas Top 100 Showcase in Houston, Hicks looks like he will be more than just a contributor to the Morton Ranch defense. But don’t solely take our word on him. Several Power 5 coaches see the potential as well.

“I got an offer from TSU (Texas Southern), and I’m already getting a couple looks from Texas A&M, SMU and Baylor,” Hicks said. “It’s exciting. Even though I only got to experience one game (on varsity), it helped me to be able to know when and how to use my hands, knowing this is a level higher than freshman ball.”

Look for 2020 to be the coming-out party for the young prospect. Hicks said that possible visits to Texas and Ohio State could happen this offseason. From the same program that produced top talent in Danielle Hunter (LSU, Minnesota Vikings), Hicks could be on a trajectory that is similar or possibly better.

He already shows early signs of a player with a high ceiling with his pass-rushing skills.

“I’m a good pass rusher because I bring speed to the edge. Also, If I’m on a team, I feel like I’m a good leader for the team,” Hicks said. “I consider myself to be a Von Miller type of pass rusher. I like to get after the quarterback.”

Hicks was named as one of the Top 25 freshmen in Dave Campbell's Texas Football Rising magazine.
