Texas remained at No. 7 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings release Tuesday afternoon ahead of conference championship Saturday.

The Horns will face No. 18 Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship as their last on-field chance to make an impression ahead of the final CFP rankings.

Georgia emerged as the newest No. 1 ranked team in the country following Michigan’s win over Ohio State this weekend. Michigan checks in at No. 2 with Washington and Florida State round out the top four. Oregon and Ohio State rank No. 5 and No. 6 just ahead of Texas.

The Longhorns will need some help to get into the College Football Playoff and the path is visible. Both Washington and Oregon play this weekend in the Pac-12 Championship creating a possible opening if Washington loses to Oregon. Georgia also plays Alabama in the SEC title game, creating another possibility if Alabama upsets the Bulldogs with Texas having a head-to-head win over Alabama earlier in the season. Florida State, without starting quarterback Jordan Travis, also faces an uphill challenge against No. 14 Louisville in the ACC Championship.
