Now that we've had time to digest the results of UIL Realignment, here are the 10 best new district rivalries for the next two years.

Which one are you most excited about? Let us know on X or Facebook.

NOTE: These are not listed in order of best to worst, but by classification, division, region and district number.

District 11-6A

Duncanville vs. North Crowley: These two DFW titans met in the state semifinals in 2023 and 2024 with the series splitting at 1-1. One of these two teams has played in the last five state title games at the 6A Division I level, with three recent state titles between these two teams. Both are loaded with front-line talent and both play a physical brand of football. It’ll be must-see television when these two face off in Week 4.

District 32-6A

Harlingen vs. PSJA North: This will be a fantastic district matchup down in the Rio Grande Valley as Harlingen, one of the 6A programs of record in the 956, takes on what most believe is the top overall program in the Valley in PSJA North, which moves up from Class 5A Division I into Class 6A.

District 5-5A Division I

Frisco Lone Star vs. Melissa: With Melissa moving up from 5A Division II to 5A Division, we get this high-powered showdown featuring last year’s 5A Division I state runner up Frisco Lone Star tangling with a regional finalist in 5A Division II. Nice stadiums. Big crowds. Outstanding talent. This will be a strong rivalry the next two seasons before Melissa likely makes the jump to 6A in 2028.

District 11-5A Division I

Angleton vs. Richmond Randle: Angleton, which made the state semifinals in 2024, looked to be a strong contender to win it in 5A Division I before a rash of injuries. The Wildcats will get a chance to test themselves in a major way against Richmond Randle, which is led by 5-star RB Landen Williams-Callis. The Lions move up to 5A Division I after winning the 5A Division II state title in 2024 and finishing as the state runner-up a year ago in 5A DII.

District 12-5A Division I

Georgetown vs. Pflugerville Weiss: District 12-5A Division I may be the best district in 5A Division I top to bottom and the northern Austin suburbs will be alive when Georgetown and Pflugerville Weiss tangle. Georgetown has spent the past two years in 8-5A Division I and the Eagles have made the area playoffs in back-to-back years. Pflugerville Weiss is among the most talented teams in the state. A year ago first-year head coach Malcolm Hill got the Wolves into the regional semifinals and were an overtime loss to Barbers Hill away from a trip to the regional finals.

District 13-5A Division II

Boerne vs. Liberty Hill: The new “District of Doom” in 5A Division II actually lies in Region IV in 13-5A Division II with Alamo Heights and New Braunfels in the mix, but this matchup may be the best of all with back-to-back Region IV champion Boerne getting to hook up with the vaunted Slot-T offense of Liberty Hill. The Panthers haven’t made deep runs the past two years in Region III, but moving back to Region IV may be the tonic that gets Liberty Hill back to long postseason stays.

District 8-4A Division II

Carthage vs. Texarkana Pleasant Grove: Well we don’t have to wait until late November for this showdown. Instead, we’ll get it in district play as Highway 59 will see plenty of traffic when Carthage and Pleasant Grove link up in a brutal District 8-4A Division II that also features Gilmer, Center and Pittsburg. Pleasant Grove has a new head coach in former defensive coordinator Jonathan Darby, while Carthage is still led by legendary head coach Scott Surratt, who has led the Bulldogs to 11 state titles.

District 3-3A Division I

Llano vs. Wall: There's a lot of new in 3A Division I in Region I with Llano making the surprise move into the region after being a regional contender in Region IV the past several years, including winning the regional title a year ago. Wall, which won the 3A Division II state title a year ago, makes the move to 3A Division I. It’s not a surprise the Hawks were placed in Division I, but getting in a district with powerful Llano makes for a fun matchup. Also of note, Wall head coach Craig Slaughter is formerly the head coach at Llano.

District 11-3A Division I

Columbus vs. Edna: After being the team of record in Region IV the past five years, Edna makes the move into Region III where it will face off with powerful Columbus. These two met in the state semifinals in 2024 as Columbus went on to win a state title in 3A Division I. In 2025, both of these teams were regional finalists and expect to contend once again in 2026.

District 15-2A Division I

Ganado vs. Shiner: After a two-year hiatus, this rivalry is back on as Shiner moves back into 2A Division I after a two-year stint at 2A DII. Ganado won the state title in 2A Division I in 2024 and made the state semifinals in 2023, while Shiner played for the state title at the 2A Division II level the past two seasons.
